re: re: Crazy lab test results!

Bonnie, thanks for your response. Actually, I know that food allergies are what triggered the hives in the first place (she ate shrimp that day). Later I noticed that the hives got worse (lip swelling, for example) when she ate certain things, so she was tested for a lot of foods. Sure enough, she is highly allergic to shrimp and other shellfish, rice, barley, pork, cashew, and a few other things mildly. That was based on RAST testing, which isn't 100% accurate, but the best we can do. So of course, all those things have been removed from her diet (which is a pain for a teenager, let me tell you). Then the hives did settle down some (no more swelling), but did not go away.

She did not show up allergic to wheat, and she tested negative for celiac's. Also, her blood sugar levels are normal. But we have thought about doing an elimination diet just to see what happens, it's just so inconvenient for her to do it. The allergist doesn't really think what is going on now is allergy related, though, because it doesn't change from day to day, except for getting worse with stress. He thinks it may be autoimmune; I think it's related to what's going on with her hormones. Can't wait to find out if this high aldosterone level is really accurate.

Kat
