symptoms of LOCAH in my sister?
May. 19th, 2007   8:40am

Hello!

I have a daughter with SWCAH so I'm usually checking out the other board, but I think ya'll over here can probably help me out more with this issue.

My younger sister (21) has been having a strange run of health problems the past few years: recurrent infections, such as UTI's and strep that take 2-3 courses of antibiotics to go away, headaches, vertigo, intermittant neural  myopathy, and a touch of depression to go with everything. She's also had hair loss, acne problems, ovarian cysts, and in the past year or two developed some excess facial hair.

She did not experience premature puberty, is a normal height, and weight is ok except for that freshmen 15 she put on when she started college.  She's been tested for the neurological stuff (MRI's, especially looking for cystic fibrosis because of the neuropathy) and nothing has come up. Normal panels of bloodwork look fine, as far as I can tell.

It was her last 4 symptoms that made me sit up and think LOCAH the other day- not that we were even thinking of them of symptoms at the time. I was wondering if anyone with LOCAH had experienced any of the other symptoms that she's exhibiting? Certainly, her symptoms can be explained in by other, more benign issues (stress being one of them) but with the family history I'd hate to leave a piece of the puzzle out for the docs who are trying to put everything together and figure out what is going on.

Ha- I haven't even mentioned the subject to her (tho I did mention it to Ma to get her thoughts on it). Any input would be welcome and greatly appreciated! And if anyone wants to give advice on how to broach a subject like this with a family member, I'd be more than willing to listen! Thanks--

Martha
