re: re: re: Are illnesses harder to get over with NCAH?

I had to reply to this one.... I wasn't diagnosed and put on meds till I was 19. I had the same symptoms as your daughter.... I got sicker than other people when I would get sick - my mom was always concerned about me (like when I got chicken pox and a really hard case at 11 years old). In high school I got strep throat all the time too. For me though.... I DIDN'T EVER get a period. I did get polycystic ovaries (and it felt like an appendicitis - it hurt like ___). My first period was when I was put on steroids (talking about feeling like a freak). My bone age must have been advanced too (don't know - never went to the doctor to find out) I quit growing at age 11 (5'2"). Don't let this happen to your daughter!

I wish to God that my parents would have done something sooner... I had terrible headaches every day as a teenager too - and felt abnormal from all the extra body hair as a young child (she won't talk to you about that part). Meds would have prevented all this.

My advice is get her on meds... sure - her chances of crisis will be greater while on meds (if she doesn't take them regularly, especially) but her quality of life will be so much better - mine has improved immesurably.

Susan A.
