re: ACTH results, please read and respond
Sep. 15th, 2007   7:58am

There is no question that a diagnosis of CAH - 21 hydroxylase deficiency is correct! Even her baseline levels were enough to indicate CAH, such as, her DHEA, androstenedione and 17-ohp levels.

Her cortisol response was inadequate at 13, post ACTH. It should be doubled from baseline or at least >18 post ACTH.

I think for an eight year old newly diagnosed with CAH 15 mgs  of hydrocortisone is not unreasonable, as she has some decent numbers which need to get back into control.

Once the levels become more reasonable, hopefully the dose may be able to come down but others on this board with children similar to your daughters age may be able to help you more with dosages.

Also keep a copy of all results, keep them in a file and you will soon become very familiar with what looks good and what doesn't look right.

Megan
