re: Anna from poland's question on ACTH Sep. 17th, 2007 2:02pm
If you have not had a cortisol stimulation test done yet, you need to ask your doctor about this. I am 27 and have been suffering with CAH since I was a young child. I recently had a cortisol stim. test done and it showed elevations of aldosterone, DHEA, pregnegalone, and ACTH. My symptoms are as follows; headaches (since I was a toddler), high blood pressure (since 19yrs), nausea, difficulty sleeping, acne, blotchy skin when stressed, rapid weight gain, pigment changes in armpits, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and anger and frustration that is difficult to control at times. I spent many years being told nothing was wrong with me except being depressed until I saw an endocrinologist who did this cortisol stim test and now am responding fairly well to treatment. If you have not had this test done or haven't seen an endocrinologist I would ask about these things. The blood test can also been know as a ACTH stimulation test. It is very time sensitive and time consuming but will help with diagnosing. Good luck and I hope this info is helpful.
