re: treatment's for late onset CAH, dex versus hydrocortizone Sep. 17th, 2007 8:57pm
I was diagnosed with CAH at age 3, and I am now 20. I took hydrocortizone from 3 yrs old to about 15 and my doctor wanted me to switch because I took it 3 times a day and there were other options for once a day medication, they keep children on hydrocortizone becuase it does not interfere with growth and many other medications like dex and prednisone stunt growth. I started taking prednisone then and it worked just as well but once I got to college my schedule was different from day to day and I wasnt remembering to take the 2nd dosage in the afternoon. In 2006 my doctor took me off prednisone and put me on deximethazone. I gained about 30 pounds in 3 months and I asked my doctor to put me back on prednisone and soon after I lost the weight I had gained. Now I make sure I remember to take my 2nd dosage and if i dont take it then I usually get headaches. Anyways prednisone works the best for me. I take my first dose in the morning when I have breakfast, almost any doctor I talked to said its better to take the first dose in the morning, I was wondering why you take your dose at night?
