re: What meds are available? Oct. 29th, 2007 8:38am
What levels were elevated when you were diagnosed with LOCAH? Well there is methylprednisolone or dexamethason you could try--both steroids. I first took dexamethason before and had too many side effects from it. Now i am taking prednisone but only 2 mg of it and doing fine on it. No problems at all. Did your doctor ever considering lowering the dose a bit to see if it lowers the androgens just as well, or did he start you off with a lower dose and then went up to 5 mg/day cuz a lower dose doesn't do the job? Each person responds differently types of steroids....hard to tell and all one can do is try it out:(
There are also antiandrogen pills(bcp) that you can try if you are not planning on becoming pregnant anytime soon. I personally have not tried them yet so i don't have any info on that. It probably would also be important to know how high your labs were and which levels were elevated:).
