re: Report from the RE visit--sorry, this is long! Dec. 29th, 2007 10:36am
Kat, I'm sorry to hear about another wasted/frustrating dr. appt. I can relate to this situation so much. I had been told there was nothing wrong with me other than depression, PCOS, lack of exercise, and even been asked at the age of 22 if I was a 72yr woman due to my symptoms. I was told these things apparently because I complained of nausea, headaches, rapid weight gain, hair growth, depression, high b/p, and the list goes on and on.... The fantastic dr.'s who saw me as a hypocondriac didn't think that high b/p at the age of 19 and gaining 100 pds within 2yrs time at the age of 21 was anything other than depression. I went from being a 3 sport athlete growing up to being this sad adult that had no energy and felt horrible all the time. My mom researched and found that my symptoms were not only valid but something we had been asking about my entire life. It still took us 2 PCP's and 2 endo's to believe that I was born with LOCAH. Not only have I had horrible experiences myself but I work at a hospital and I watch some dr's have predisposed opinions before they listen to what the patient is saying. Throughout this journey I have found that you must fight for what you feel because I have known since I was a toddler that something wasn't right inside me and the only one who did believe me all along was my mom. So I commend you for fighting for your daughter and supporting her. I do understand that meds can make us feel better but what feels the best is having a dr. actually validate that your not really crazy and you truely do know yourself. I know it seems hard to go to another dr. after all the nonsense we all have had go on, but the only way they will ever learn to help patients is if we teach them about what goes on in our bodies. Please know you are not alone in your frustrations and keep fighting.
