re: LOCAH, Anxiety, Birth Control Pills
Dec. 29th, 2007   4:14pm

Hi There,

Anxiety and LOCAH seem to go hand in hand.  I've been reading the message boards since being diagnosed several years ago, and this is one of the chief complaints.  And, I don't think it even matters whether you are on the pill or not or on Dex.  Simply having excess androgens and not enough cortisol in your system causes the anxiety.  And, we don't need doctors to tell us this.  Also, if the BCPs make you feel worse then don't take them.

Personally, the Dex increased my anxiety and sent me into a rage each time I was on it.  I tried Dex (.25mg) for about a week on three separate occassions.  Each time I was extremely irritable and anxious, even more so than usual, and I would wake up during the night with a very dry mouth, clenching my teeth and biting my tongue feeling very anxious and crazy. It was as though it altered my psyche, so much that I could literally choke someone.  I would get up and go look in the mirror and it was a scary sight.  Then, I would open my mouth and I could see that along both sides of my tongue there were depressions like I had been biting down on it.  Needless to say, I stopped after those three times and haven't been back on it since.  My doctor says those symptoms are not due to the Dex, but I know my body and I know the Dex caused them.  I have not had a similar experience since, so who's right!

Best wishes and Happy New Year!

Hope
