Need Board's Collective Opinion
Mar. 13th, 2008   4:05pm

I haven't been on the board for a really long time.

As you may remember I was diagosed almost 2 yrs ago when I was 46 yrs old from genetic testing.  I had a stim test and my Cortisol rose to only 15.4 with 18 being viable.   So. I went on a 1/4 of 0.5mg of Dex and still struggled with fatigue.  My labs were in good range but I hate this fatigue.  In Sept of 07 I just couldn't take the fatigue anymore and my OH17 went up to 862 so I tried 1000 mg of Metformin and 0.5mg of Dex.  My migraines & fatigue were at their lowest.  I wasn't perfect, but I was feeling quite well most days and my weight was melting off!!

Then in Nov 07 I went out to NIH with my girls to complete our Family History Study.  I went down from a whole 0.5 Dex pill to a 1/2 pill for 2 days and then didn't take the pill the night before another stim test.  The results of their stim test was that my Cortisol went up to 21.9.  According to NIH I can survive!!  Since I did survive for 46yrs of physical trauma and I passed their stiim test NIH believes I should not be on Dex.

Dex can cause a lot of health problems in folks especially diabetes, I am pre-diabetic so they are worried about that in me.  I just went to my endo here and he wants to agree with NIH because them are the experts. I want to agree with them as well.  I LOVE the folks at NIH.  They are the experts in the field!!

However, the truth is, I am currently not only fatigue, I am lethargic.  I don't want to do anything.  I didn't leave the house this week except for one day.  No, no its not because I'm depressed.  I'm already on meds for that and they work.  I'm not sad, not crying, not angry, not irritable, I"M TIRED!!!   I"M DRAGGIN!   I don't want to watch T.V., I'll fall asleep if I read.  I taught my study at church today and just couldn't wait to come home and nap.

NIH said I should treat my symptoms with other meds.  Spironolactone for zits, Metformin for that, etc.  My recent labs were: OH17 235/ DHEA <15 and Free Test. 17.  This other doc suggested for fatigue was Adderall or something for a low functioning Thyroid.   What do you folks think, ADD meds, thyroid meds or Dex for fatigue?
