I would appreciate your input and experience. At around age 10 or 11 (in the mid-1960's), I developed an overgrowth of the clitoral hood. The clitoris may have been involved, but I don't think so and I was just too yound to know what that meant. My parents did not discuss this with me, but took me to a surgeon who removed the excess tissues. End of story as far as they were concerned. They are now deceased.
Up to that point, I was a huge kid. At about the same time, I stopped growing, although I was already a normal adult height. I developed low bp, low pulse rate, irregular periods, endometriosis, saw stars on standing and became dizzy. I had low energy and became fatigued on exercising. Light and sound sensitivity. Bad acne in teens continued until menopause, now acne is just light. Also had recurrent throat and kidney infections.
I just learned about the existence of CAH and it certainly hit a chord. I came across descriptions of it because I was researching hypoadrenalism and hypopituitary conditions because I felt I had a mild problem. I also have hypothyroidism which seems to stem from the pituitary because I have low TSH even when free T-3 is very low.
I went to an anti-aging clinic and they gave me a low dose of cortisol that seemed to improve my general energy level. They were expensive and uncovered by insurance, however, so I went back to a regular endo who doesn't want me to have cortisol because she gave me an ACTH stim test and it was completely normal.
Does my experience sound like late-onset CAH to anyone? I would greatly appreciate anyone's input on the subject.
Thanks.
Stephanie
