You're looking at two completely different aspects of steroids.Side effects are usually associated with extremely high doses of steroids - either over treatment, or more commonly, the use of steroids to treat other conditions, in which they're employed in much larger doses.
In CAH, all you are aiming to do is to replace the body's natural production, which is limited in CAH.
I think a key thing you're getting confused over is that an adrenal crisis is NOT a side effect of steroids. A crisis is a form of shock, and in the case of CAH, salt wasting, and everything else, is caused by an ABSENCE of control, not over control.
