synacthen test results, possible LOCAH?
May. 19th, 2008   1:56am
on april 2 I had my basal cortisol and 17ohp levels measured, as I thought I could possibly have a form of cah, the results were

cortisol 487nmol/l(I thought this was a little low considering i've been under constant stress for some time and I had an anxiety attack the night before and didn't get any sleep before the blood was taken)
17ohp 4nmol/l(follicular phase <6nmol/l appears not to be elevated)

anyway I asked my Dr to run a acth stim test to completely rule out CAH (april 24 still feeling extremely stressed-physically and emotionally), these were the results
cortisol pre-synacthen 598 nmol/l time taken 0811
cortisol post-synacthen 698 nmol/l time taken 0850
cortisol post synacthen 788 nmol/l time taken 0919

the comment off the results form says A post-synacthen cortisol result showing an increase of less than 200nmol/l suggests an inadequate response to synacthen.(they didn't measure any other hormones)

It took me a good two weeks to recover from the synacthen test as it left me feeling like I do when I'm pregnant(constantly nauseous, wide awake and totally exhausted at the same time, of course when I'm pregnant you have to add in severe vomiting, right up until the little cherubs come out.)
I have been referred to an endo, however it could be another couple of months before I actually get to see one, I'm finding it very hard not stressing, I've also started producing breastmilk and I'm definately not pregnant!
