re: synacthen test results, possible LOCAH?
May. 19th, 2008   3:10am

Hi NZ Sarah,

It is true that you didn't quite reach the 200 nmol/L increase in cortisol post synacthen, although you were close at 190.......

Which I'm sure has left you and your doctor in a bit of a quandary considering the fact that your doctor didn't test your 17-ohp (17-hydroxyprogesterone and 17- hydroxypregnenolone) responses to synacthen. These are really the diagnostic parameters for LOCAH. Also s/he should have tested your androgen levels pre and post synacthen to elicit their response also. The androgens to test for are testosterone, androstenedione and DHEA-s.

What a pity the test didn't include all the necessary levels as it is so hard to get doctors to order these tests and then to muff them is such a shame!

Have they tested your prolactin levels? In view of your lactation, perhaps you have something going on with your pituitary gland. Sounds like more investigations are in order!

Megan
