re: re: Does Everybody Know That Your Child Has CAH?
Jan. 17th, 2008   6:37am

hello

I have 2 girls with CAH.  I tend to tell people that they have a rare genetic condition which means that they don't produce adrenalin and cannot retain salt in their bodies so they take medication and they can be treated like any other child unless they are ill, have a temperature or are in an accident.  I do not tell people about the physical effects on the genetalia, even my brothers don't know that.  this is because when they are older i don't want them to think that everyone knows that about their private area.  People tend to think that it only affects girls because i only have girls, I tend to say that it affects boys but can affect girls more.  This seems to satisfy people.  If they ask why I just say that it can be more difficult for them around puberty as hormones are affected. I got more questions around this when i took dexamethasone for my last pregnancy
