I was just wondering if any other CAHer had spinal surgery or anything like it and, due to the cortisol issue experienced slow recovery.
I am probably just looking for a different reason for Ryan's recovery to have plateaued where it is. It has been three months now and he is still only able to take steps while assisted either by cane, walker or holding on to something for a short walk (from one room to the next) and then needs to sit immediately and is wiped out for some time. I know that it's a miracle that he is even able to take steps on his own but for the injury he suffers from the docs were hoping to see a more rapid recovery out of the gate. Believe it or not, the walking is the least of his problems. My 12 year old son is back in diapers and has to cath himself to pee and take medicine to make him, well, you know. He has basically no feeling in the pelvic area and the feeling he gets in his legs is sometimes excruciating.
My happy go lucky boy is starting to lose his sense of humor and we ALL need something good to come our way real soon. His sense of humor, which has always been enormous, has begun to deflate and his self confidence is slipping as well since he is always worrying about one thing or another....especially of having an accident. His sister has been an angel about helping him with his wheelchair at school and they are still very close. I asked him where he wanted to go on vacation this year and he said "I don't want to go anywhere until I can control myself".L
He is an incredible boy who has survived so many near death crisis in his life I just can't bare to think that he may be partially paralyzed for the rest of his life.
Please just pray for him and all of us that we can make it through all of this and come out the other side even better than we went into it.
Thanks in advance and God BlessU
