In a nutshell, there really is no "extra special treatment" given, nor is any needed. That is of course to say that there are no other issues outside of having CAH. After birth I saw and held both my son with CAH and my daughter (they are twins). I did have my Endo in the delivery room, together with the standards, Ped, and NICU (for twins) specialists. Both were evaluated, given a clean bill of health and sent off to the regular nursery.
Within hours both were in my room and stayed in my room with the exception from 11:00pm-6:00am. Only reason being that I figured I might as well get as much sleep as possible, since I knew it wasn't going to last :o) The one difference was that I gave my son his cortef and florinef. I knew all the "tricks" and I knew that I would be much better at it than the nurses. Finally, both left the hospital the same day as I was discharged.
As for breastfeeding, it won't be a problem. You just need to make sure that you add salt to the bottles. Giving salt can be tough...IMO you really need to add it to their bottles of breastmilk or formula.
Finally regarding meds, I never gave our sons meds in their bottles. I always crushed the pills and used a syringe filled with water to mix the meds, then simply placed it in their mouths and gently dispersed it. This always worked perfectly. It also was (and still is!) great for when they were sleeping.
Congratulations! I wishing you all the very best!
