SWCAH and I don't take any meds...GASP!
Jan. 30th, 2008   3:02pm

I am 31 years old (female) with SWCAH and I have not taken meds in over 9 years. I have been on one steriod or another since I was born and have had severe side effects from all of them. I was very suicidal, overweight and had horrible mood swings with each med I was on. I finally decided to stop taking meds and when I told my endo at the time, he said I would die within a year. It is now 9 years later and I haven't died! I do have to eat a lot of salty foods everyday and stay hydrated. If I get sick, I go to the hospital and tell them I have SWCAH (most of them have never heard of it anyway!) and they rehydrate me with fluids.

There have been side effects from being off of steriods.. such as I have the testosterone level of most sumo wrestlers and masculine features.  I have decided to try and find alternative medicines and see if I can try and find something that will work to regulate my hormones. I have located endos in the Chicago area, where I live, and I have an appointment to go talk to them and see what they say.

I am curious if anyone else went off of their meds completely or if anyone has had the same reactions to meds that I have had.

Christy
