Carly,
My daughter just turned 19 months old yesterday. When she was born, I felt the same way you are feeling right now. In fact, sometimes I still feel that way! I agree that it's hard enough being a first time mom, but then you add in a medical condition like this and it can be extremely overwhelming!! Especially if there aren't others around that you can talk to.
I can promise that these feelings will pass, or at least lessen. I wish someone would have told me that my daughter would be ok and I should enjoy her as she grew up. I also feel like I missed out on alot of happiness during the first couple of months. The best I can tell you is to take it one day at a time and take joy in everything that happens!!
If you would like to chat, feel free to email me
