re: re: not getting any real answers

Hi neesie,

As far as I can see, Kristy's answer is as close as you can get to a comprehensive one, due to the varying nature of CAH. This is just educated guesswork and logic, but I think it makes sense...

If you compare the 2 extremes of CAH, severe SW against the mildest LOCAH, you are comparing someone who needs cortisol and fludro constantly to maintain adequate cortisol levels, and control sodium and potassium levels, against someone who has lived the majority of their life without even realising they have CAH. That is potentially someone who makes practically no cortisol and aldosterone naturally compared to someone that has very near to natural levels of production. The key thing to remember is that CAH is not a clear cut case of ALL non-SW having the same cortisol production, and ALL SW having the same cortisol and aldosterone production, there are varying degrees of both.

For that reason, I'm not sure if you'll find in a text anywhere a predicted "survival time" (I've looked in Rivkees and Hsu for you and found no such information).

Sorry I can't be more help!

Regards

Rick

Rick
