re: re: re: "Corrective" Surgery
Feb. 2nd, 2008   4:28am
I was btwn 2-6 wks old when I had my first surgery. They opened up my vagina and reduced my clitoris. Spent about 8 wks in LeBonheur Childrens Hosp in Memphis Tn.  So now, I have a couple of scars, no inner labia, no clitoral hood, and very little clitorial sensation. REMEMBER THOUGH this was done in 1970.  I'm sure the drs are a lot more sensitive to the baby's future 'needs' now.  Even though I have always  been self conscious, had I not had the surgery early, I think I would have been more self conscious than I am. Had 2 more operations at age 17 to lengthen & widen the vaginal opening (OOOOOWWWWW!!!) to make it possible to use even the smallest tampon. I'm a big advocate for getting it all done at one time, as early as possible. Babies heal quicker and seem be less conscious of the pain; they've never experienced pain, so they don't know what it is yet. Good luck in making your decisions.
