Chicken pox vaccine, SWCAH and steroids Feb. 3rd, 2008 2:16am
Hello,
I am a mom of a wonderful three year old with salt wasting CAH. He takes a high dose of Cortef. I have created an individual vaccine schedule for him, doing one vaccine at a time while supplementing his vit. C and vit. A intake to boost his immune system. I also did not vaccinate until he was 1 and 1/2 years old.
My question: has anyone had a bad reaction after getting a chicken pox vaccine, whether fever, seizure etc.? It says under the precautions, that those who are taking steroids for a long time "should not" be vaccinated with Varivax, which has live chicken pox virus. He is scheduled to receive the vaccine next week. My pediatrician is very pro-vaccine and thinks this is not a problem, but I would like to hear from those out there who have done the vaccine. Also, anyone who has had an adverse reaction to MMR please let me know.
