Hi! My almost eleven year old daughter had surgery at 9 months. She was a severe prader 5, misidentified as male at birth. Her surgery was rather urgent due to severe urinary tract problems, which led to adrenal crisis.
I think I would have waited as long as I could have if we had been in your position. I say, "I think," because I realize I can't say for sure, not being there. The chances of having minimal scar tissue is better the older they are. (Even closer to puberty if possible.) I understand as a parent, though, you need to weigh that against the mental health of your child.
I certainly think there is no time too early to begin your research to have a completely informed decision. Best of luck to you and your family!
