re: Potty Training Postop SWCAH

I'm curious to know if you have had her urine tested for infection? My daughter is 15 and has undergone several vaginalplasty surgeries up until the age of five. Many times she had a UTI and I never new until the urine screening was done. Seems I was a the lab twice a mo. Sometimes the UTI did not show in the inital dip. When cultured it would show. There was no outside apperance of infection. She did have fevers if it was not treated fast enough. One thing I learned isthat if a child is taking an antibiotic and the MD test her for UTI's you will not get accurate results. That is why it is important to take test the urine and culture it prior to starting the antibiotic. This is how they would choose the right antibiotic for the germ (UTI) that she had. She has had extensive surgeries and the truth is I did not realize that I had a choice. The urologist explained the inital surgery (clitoris reduction) as if it was a normal part of the process.  The point I'm trying to make is that my child never had a UTI until after her first surgery. Then for the following 4 years they were non stop. Oh the stories I could tell. She wore pull ups to bed until the age 14. She had bladder control in the daytime for the most part but not a night. The urologist explained that she had a very large bladder, and it was commom in CAH girls to have control.
