re: Prenatal Diagnosis of CAH
May. 5th, 2008   5:35pm

Congradulations!

There are some thing you'cve said the doctors told you that don't make sense.

I have never heard of CAH being caused by random mutation. It's rare enough when inherited. I took over operation of this board in April of 1999 and read it daily. This is the first time I've ever heard anyone mention CAH can pop up randomly, without being inherited.

CAH can make a girl appear like a boy at birth, but the child is still a girl, and if the baby looks like a girl on the ultrasounds, then the CAH wouldn't be making a boy look like a girl. Seems to me if they can see the adrenal grlands clear enough to measure them, then they can tell whether it's a boy or girl. If there's no penis, then it's a girl. It may be that your doctors are a bit clueless about CAH, but don't want to admit it, and know only the hype that the "intersex" people put out which distorts things and causes confusion.

It sounds like you really, REALLY need a second opinion (from a different hospital, preferably from someone actually familiar with CAH) before letting some clueless doctors "practice" on your baby.
