I find this statement quite shocking,
"the boys Dr. suggested in the last DR. meeting in October. That adult males could stop taking their hydrocortisone meds after they finish with puberty."
That adult males can stop taking their meds once puberty is over, are you sure this means SWCAH too? (which your boys are)
Does the specialist who suggested this, think that puberty cures the lack of cortisol needed to survive and live a normal healthy life? A young man with SWCAH in the UK who was taking his meds, got a stomach bug a few months back, did all the right things by increasing his doses etc, went to bed thinking he would be fine, but never woke up in the morning......
How does puberty cure the lack of cortisol and aldosterone? This would make SWCAH only a childhood disorder in boys - surely?
Perhaps the doses could be lowered in men but to stop steroids when you have SWCAH, I just cannot understand how this could be said. Of course TARTS gives even more proof that men need their medication, also to be well informed and well monitored, throughout life. I have read of some adult men who have osteoporosis and other health issues, so good treatment throughout life is important, whether male or female.
