re: re: Prenatal Diagnosis of CAH
May. 6th, 2008   10:22pm
Just make sure you are giving birth in a center that has a pediatric endocrinologist, geneticist and social worker on staff. Are you living in the US? If so, make sure they screen her for CAH at birth. If your wife is late, every state will be screening by July. If she gives birth, two states will not be screening yet. They can fedex the sample to the state and they will let you know within 24-48 hours after the lab receives the blood spot.
If the doctors suspect she has CAH, then they will immediately take blood samples and run lots of tests. If they do an ultrasound and say they can't find the ovaries or uterus, don't worry--if its CAH , then they are there but too small to see. This is not unusual. Don't let it frighten you.

She will be fine. They will start her on medications and will monitor her closely. Call us if we can help you in any way.
