I'm pregnant right now and taking Dex. Here's what I can tell you so far, at almost 11 weeks. CVS has been scheduled for closer to 13. They want to be sure they have every opportunity to get the material they need. I should find out in 2-3 days if it's a boy or girl. 2-3 weeks after that to see if they have CAH. (my son is 2 and has SWCAH)
I am pretty sensitive to medications and the dex has been no different. I've already gained 15 pounds and I'm hungry all the time. I was nothing like this during the pregnancy with my son. (and of course all pregnancies are different, so who knows) I've had heart palpitations, a racing heart, and pretty bad acne. Until I was on dex, I've had perfect skin my whole life. The weight gain and water retention are pretty horrible for me. I'm praying that 2 weeks will bring relief and I can stop the dex.
Otherwise, the pregnancy is going normally. The baby has grown the way he/she should, and all my lab-work is fine.
Some people barely have any side effects at all from the dex. Some, like me, have them pretty bad.
I figure, in the end, it'll be worth it regardless because we'll have a baby and we'll know if they need treatment right away. My son almost died because the newborn screening wasn't done properly on him. We found out that he had CAH 2 weeks after he was diagnosed in the ER.
I wish you the best of luck! I might hate the steroids, but I'm happy about the baby! :)
