re: Question for those using 24 hour urinalysis for monitoring CAH
Jun. 3rd, 2008   2:33am

The 24 hour urine collection is all that my doctors had to go by when I was a child and growing up.

Some people on this board of recent years have used 24 hour urinalysis solely at times. Some did them in conjunction with the blood testing and found the correlation of levels to be quite accurate, without the trauma of a screaming child which can cause the 17-ohp to rise. It's a slightly different 'language of tests' when done this way but easy enough to learn!

Your doctor may prefer a blood draw for the renin levels but equally the electrolytes and BP levels may be sufficient for monitoring that, for a couple more years until he is less frightened.

Do you use Emla or similar cream?

Megan
