re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Crushing a pill....

I didn't know they dissolved so well. I used to make my own suspension as they called it. Years ago the company that made the suspension for the Coref for the kids that couldn't swallow the pills, messed up. They recalled the medication because the ingredient they used to "suspend" the medicine wasn't working right and so the dosage was unbalanced. It was a nightmare for those that experienced this. At the time it was orange flavored. SO, I tried everything with that nasty Cortef pill for my toddler. We crushed it and put it in punch and sucked it up in a syringe, for my daughter to spit it out. So I tried to mimic the orange suspension. We bought that concentrated punch that you mix with water to make like what, 90 glasses of punch. (but you don't mix it with water to make this suspension) Anway, this was very much like that suspension that was recalled. It was orange flavored, and thick enough to hold the pill or suspend the pill so in turn my daughter couldn't taste the pill on her tongue. The water and juice wouldn't "suspend" it enough to take the taste of the pill away. The pill particles floated to the bottom of her tongue and out it would come. If I didn't duck fast enough, my face would get it. SO, we bought a pill crusher at the pharmacy, crushed up the pill, would draw out some orange concentrated punch, squirt it into the mixture, and then with a spatula scrape every morsal up as I sucked the mix back into the syringe. A lot of work? Yes it was but at that time I would have given my right arm to make sure we got her medicine down like we used to when the suspension was working. We lied to her and told her it was her yummy orange medicine again. She trusted us enough and took the new mixture and WA LA! We were all happy again and she was getting her meds. So for those that are stuck at night, and the pill crushed in water or juice isn't working, this is an idea that worked for us. By the way, those concentrated punches come in a variety of flavors. And are cheap.

P.S. To Kristy.....I can remember HATING to wash out those syringes. I totally forgot about that aspect until I read your post. I can remember trying to buy like 100 syringes at a time just so I didn't have to wash them out! Did you ever wash it so many times that it started to stick? UGH. Those were horrible ones.
