re: re: Prednisone

I was switched to pred in my late teens in the UK, can't remember why BUT not told of the side effects. When I was my mid - thirties and just moved to France - the endos were horrified that I was taking pred, told me of the side effects and switched me back to hydrocortisone with calcium supplements and strict instructions to take anti-osteoporosis exercise. My bone scan did indeed show that 15 yrs of pred-taking had started to weaken my bones. I'm really quite angry that no-one told me this.

It's not the only side-effect and I now have less problems with weight gain, 'puffiness', managing stress and lethargy.

BTW I was also given a massive overdose of hydro when I was diagnosed at 4 so I didn't trust what endos said even in my teens but was lulled into a false sense of security by their complacency about pred.

Anyone else have a similar experience ?

Lisa
