re: surgery----how effective is it Jun. 22nd, 2008 8:11pm
My daughter has surgery when she was 9 months old. I felt very comfortable with the doctor. He made sure I understood everything he was going to do--even drawing pictures for me! Sitting in the waiting room was the hardest part, but the doctor came out to find me and told me everything had gone just fine. My daughter was awake in a few minutes, and pretty much back to her old self by that evening. We came home the same day, and she was fully healed in a weeks time.
I can't speak for others whose children may have had more severe surgeries, but my daughter looks normal to me. I'm not sure what "normal" may look like, but she looks like me--if that's what you mean. There is no scarring that I can see, and as far as I can tell everything "works" normal too.
Be aware there are alot of people who will fault you for wanting to have the surgery done. You are her mother, and you know what's best for her. Hopefully people will be respectful of your decision, but they will try to change it. If this is what you feel is best for your daughter, then this is what you do.
