re: re: voice and excess hair Jun. 23rd, 2008 9:08pm
I don't get the idea this mom is being judgemental at all. In fact, I think she has her daughter's best interest at heart. She seems to me to want her little girl to be healthy and minimize any of the unpleasant side effects of CAH wherever possible. To me, that's really loving your little girl. Having said that, I have a daughter who is almost 20. She does have weight issues, but part of that is because she likes to eat snacks. When she cuts those out, she can lose the weight and she knows that. She doesn't have excess hair or a deep voice, but when she was younger several people used to comment on her "husky" voice. As for height, she is 5'3-1/2" tall which is a really good height for girls in my family! We are all short. If your daughter is well controlled with her meds, but not oversuppressed you will minimize any of those side effects of CAH. Right now I would think your main concern would be that she is getting enough meds without being oversuppressed. Oversuppression can cause weight gain. Not enough meds can compromise height. It's a fine line and children need to get labs done regularly (every few months) . A good endo recognizes this and will monitor your child's levels regularly and will talk to you about what to expect as your child grows. A good endo will also make sure you know the signs of a crisis and what to do in one. If you need someone to talk to about what to expect, you can e-mail me at kagee88 at comcast.net
