re: surgery----how effective is it
Jun. 24th, 2008   9:18pm
Hi,

First let me say I do not have children so I cannot imagine what you go through to make a decision like this. I have read the posts in response and would advise you to try and find a forum for adult woman that have had the surgery. I understand that their perspective may be a lot different from yours and other parents but it may give you an idea of how the patient feels later in life.

I am in a relationship with a woman in her mid 40's with CAH and she and her sister both had surgeries. My partner had better results than her sister and seems to be better adjusted but still has some issues with the fact that she was not consulted. Her basic feeling is that unless the life is threatened then wait until later. I do not know all the facts of the surgeries and I am merely trying to let you know how someone who endured the surgeries feels.

Please understand I am not trying to talk you out of or into anything. I would just like to encourage you to seek out the opinions of those that have actually gone through the surgery, puberty and an adult sex life to broaden your perspectives and improve your knowledge. Your daughter will face all of these issues one day and the more you know and the more information you can give her the better prepared you both will be for what lies ahead.

klr
