To Susan part 2
Jun. 29th, 2008   9:13am
Hi Susan,
I didn't know you could get medical assistance just for a health condition either. I was one of those people that thought MA was for "poor people" and figured we made too much money, especially since we're a two income household. My niece (actually she's a step niece) got MA because her mother died when she was 1 month old, and she received social security from that. Anyway, I did the paperwork (which is alot, by the way) and because she has a health condition she was approved. We had to get a letter from the doctor, and have to get one every year when we resubmit the paperwork every year but that's pretty much it. They do ask for pay stubs also every year but the caseworker has told me they just use it for numbers.

I don't know if MA is the same in every state, but we live in PA.

Our employee health coverage is the kind that told us they wouldn't cover her medications at all, because she didn't really need them. She would get bloodwork too often so they wouldn't pay for that, if she went to the ER they wouldn't cover much of that either. I appreciate your situation, but don't wish it for my daughter. I want her to be able to have the best medical care possible and thankfully with her having Medical Assistance, that is possible.

The Starbucks comment was more of a joke, while not entirely untrue. I did get my husband to quit smoking. I figured I'd give him some time and then work on the Starbucks thing.

Rebecca
