re: re: re: Upcoming knee surgery for 15 yo grandson

Hi, Susan - thank you for the update...and I'm so glad things went well.

He'll be so motivated to do his PT well if you "can't keep him from playing".  That's great!  and that is half the battle.   It takes a looooooooong time......but it's worth it.  Doing a good job now will make him stronger and "ready to play" later.  Our daughter was out of any sports for well over a year..about 1.5 yrs, actually...after her injury.  Part of that was because she didn't have the surgery until about 4 mos after her injury (the ACL wasn't completely torn at first....and we were hoping it would heal), plus she was only 12 yrs old at the time...still had some growth left in the growth plate....so we took it really slowly and cautiously. Her surgeon was extremely conservative with her!

Her knee is fine now...she will be trying out for the high school soccer team this week!  (we'll see..........*I*'m a bit apprehensive!)
