re: re: re: Field Trips, any special conditions for CAH kids?
Aug. 17th, 2008   7:08am
We have a school nurse, BUT she does not go on a field trip with any classes. The teachers have been trained to take care of the many diabetics, peanut allergies, and bee allergies with their epi pens. I have always attended the field trips since she was in preschool. I am lucky that I can. So does another mom that has a child with a severe peanut allergy. A lot of the kids throw up from the bus trip that get car sick. The teachers have learned to bring a barf bucket with us for all the kids that do get car sick. My daughter gets car sick only if she reads while riding. So we are lucky. As much as I trust the teachers to care for my daughter I still go on the trips with her. No teacher has been trained to give her the shot, but I am sure they could do it. It is just something I have chosen to do for now. She is 11 so I imagine my days of attending the field trips with her are about over because it will be SO uncool for me to go. The good thing is that our school is always looking for parent chaperones. So, thus far it works in my favor. But if you can't go on the field trip, I am sure just as you have been trained to give a shot, so can another person. If the teacher has a good understanding of when to use the shot, then you are safe to let them go. Plus, they really don't want the reliablility if they don't handle your child's illness the right way.
