Bonnie,
Yes, my son (who is 11 years old) has been on growth hormones since April. We have definately noticed an increase in growth without any side effects, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
He has been getting Lupron injections once a month for about a year and a half, but since he started on the growth hormones he has been getting very upset when he gets his lupron injection so we are going to try the 3 month injection so he won't have to get it as often. We talked about doing the implant, but he freaked out when he found out how they do it. I'm just hoping the 3 month lupron is safe and that it's as effective as the monthly injection.
Has your son started puberty yet? Do you know what his bone age is? My older son is 14 but his bone age is 16 so they told me they will not put him on growth hormones. He's 5'3" and they told me he probably won't grow much more. He did get lupron injections for a couple of years but I think he was oversurpressed at the same time so it didn't really help that much with his growth. He also took letrozole for about a year and a half but we just recently stopped that
I know it's hard on him (especially since most of his friends are over 6 feet) but he still seems to be a well adjusted happy teenager. We'll keep our fingers crossed that he stays that way!!
Good luck with your son. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Sorry this ended up being so long!
