Hello! I am currently 15 weeks pregnant and am taking Dexamethasone with this pregnancy due to having a 2 year old daughter with SWCAH. I am going to my regular OB and also to a Perinatal Specialist with this pregnancy. When I was last at the specialist they told me they would try to determine the gender at my next appointment which is on Monday, August 25th. I will be 16 weeks then. They also told me if I decide I wanted to do an amnio to see if this baby has CAH also, then they would do it this day. I really am torn here, I thought all along I would do the amnio so we would know if the baby has CAH, and also so that if it is a girl, I would know whether to continue the dex or not. My husband and I cannot decide now if we want to put the baby at risk and do an amnio. We have talked to our daughters Endo also and he tells us there is tests, besides the newborn screening, they will run after the baby is born if we choose not to do the amnio so that they can find out ASAP if the baby has CAH. My thinking is, do I want to put this child at risk with an amnio if they can find out pretty quick after birth if the child has CAH or not? It would be great to know beforehand but I just don't want to risk anything. Any opinions and/or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I know many of you have already been through this and I would love to hear from you. Thanks so much!
