re: re: re: Pregnant....Amnio Question Aug. 20th, 2008 4:49pm
I had the amnio...actually twice...since I was having twins :o) We had a pretty good idea that I was having a boy and girl after my first u/s at 13 weeks. Yes, I know that the results were NOT reliable at that early stage, but further u/s's and the then the FSH test did confirm this. By about 19 weeks, it was 100% that I was having a son and daughter. Now, I just needed to wait for the CAH results to determine whether or not I could discontinue the Dex...about two weeks later it was confirmed that we were having a son with CAH and and daughter without.
For us, we did want to know ASAP if either our son or daughter would have CAH. So, making the decision to have an anmio came very easily. I knew the risks, but I had an excellent doctor and felt 100% confident in her abilities. For us this did prove to be the absolutely right decision. Reason being that as fate may have it, the newborn screen for CAH came back negative for both children. All I thought was, wow, thankfully I already knew that my son did in fact have CAH and treatment began immediately. But, to think if I did not have that amnio...it was definately the right decision for us.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck with your decision!
