Hi Winter,I was right about 16 weeks when I had my ultra-sound, too. I know the whole amnio is a scary prospect (we had tried nearly 10 yrs to get pregnant again, so I really did NOT want to put this baby at any unnecessary risk!), but we prayed about it alot, and decided that was what we were supposed to do.
If we found out from that amnio that it was a boy, I would have stopped taking the dex right away, of course, but if the diagnosis of "boy" was from an ultra-sound ...... hmmmm .... i'm not sure what I would have done. I know of so many times when the ultra sound tech said, "boy" or "girl" and were dead wrong, so I don't think i would trust an ultra-sound to something as important as this.
I have heard of the FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) test that "K" mentioned, but am not at all familiar with it (i don't think it was even available when I was pregnant with dd, almost 12 yrs ago now!) - when you can have it done, how accurate it is, associated risks, etc., but that seems to me to be an option worth looking into.
When we get all bogged down with the medical stuff, it's easy (for me, anyway!) to get stressed with all the choices and things that we think might go wrong ...... don't forget to rest and ENJOY your pregnancy! : )
Blessings
