I actually am going through this question as well. I am 6 months pregnant w/ a boy so I weaned off the dex. Since it is a boy, we are able to wait until the baby is born to find out about CAH. This is my third child, my daughter has SWCAH and so does my son. We waited w/ my 2nd son after he was born to test him and he ended up in the ICU at 5 days old. The Newborn Screening results take 5-7 days to get back. This time, I have found a lab out in California named Esoterix that can process the lab test for 17 hydroxyprogesterone in 1 day. This way, we will find out about this baby hopefully before it's time for us to go home. I have spoken with the neonatologist at the hospital where I will be delievering and he has told me that this baby will not be sent home until those result are back. This is very important so that they can monitor the electrolytes daily. My 2nd son was sent home with us and it is only by the grace of God that we ended up in the ER that night. I just had a "mother's feeling" that something wasn't right with him. The doctors were really surprised that he was still alive by the time we brought him in. One thing I've learned from my experiences, is that you have to be your child's advocate.
