I don't have much to add other than to say I'm rather fascinated by your daughter's doctors statement: "comparable to a person who is not taking any hydrocortisone at all."
I have to say that is not terribly informative in terms of helping you to learn and understand the numbers involved with the hormonal parameters of CAH. Doesn't he believe in giving you the actual numbers? It's helpful in the long term to be familiar with the 'normal' and 'not so normal' numbers because in the future you can have all sorts of doctors tell you all sorts of things about what is a 'good' number and what is not.
I'm quite aware that this current event does sound like quite a problem and no, one can't always tell by the CAH person's demeanour (or presenting signs) in the short term that their 17-ohp numbers are elevated. Low sodium is usually another issue.
