Hi, I am a mother of a 3 and a half year old SWCAH boy. He is normally healthy but yesterday, he had a fever of 103.5 at bedtime. So he went to bed and I gave him a triple dose which consisted of 26.25 mg. of hydrocort. Two hours later, he woke up screaming at the top of his lungs, and as I tried to reassure him, I noticed his heart was racing (and it continued to be fast for another half hour), sweating profusely and claiming "monsters' got him. He finally fell asleep jerking his legs on occasion and again had another mini-nightmare.
Has anybody noticed any sleep disturbances as a result of triple dosing at night, or any side effects involving sleep, nightterror, bad dreams? Also, during daytime, has behavior been altered in a child after triple dosing?
I would appreciate any feedback. I realize that perhaps my little guy will have to have counselling or psychological support as well as his endocrinologists. Besides the physicial effects of steroids, I'm thinking there are some psychological effects.
many thanks in advance for your help,
Margaret
