re: Anyone have Osgood-Schlatter Disease/knee pain?
Sep. 24th, 2008   8:00pm
I really DO think our daughters are kindred spirits .... separated somewhere along the way!

My 11 yr old daughter has also had knee pain for several years now; at first, I chalked it up to "growing pains", but we finally did go and have some x-rays done. She was diagnosed last year with Patello Femoral Syndrome, which on a website I found is defined as,

"The patella, commonly referred to as the "knee cap", and its tendon transmit power from the quadriceps to the lower leg. Normally, as the knee bends, the patella slides smoothly along a groove in the thigh bone. However, under certain conditions the patella may experience forces which push it against the sides of the groove, causing pain. Additionally, inflammation and roughening of the smooth underside of the patella may occur"

Interestingly, her Dad (my hubby) had this when he was around 16 or so. He did heal/grow out of it, so I'm hoping that dd will, too. There are certain exercises you can do for this, as well as avoiding some of the same things as Osgood-Schlatter disease.

What next, eh?! Hope she can find some relief, and that she outgrows it soon!

Wendy-Lee
