My name is Donna Williams and I'm with the Texas Newborn Screening Program.
Texas is hosting the annual Newborn Screening and Genetic Testing Symposium, and this year we're planning a panel discussion of young adults detected through screening. The goal is to gain 'insight on how our children transition into adulthood. Here's a link to information on the symposium: http://www.aphl.org/profdev/conferences/nbssymp2008/Pages/NBSsymposium2008.aspx
We currently have speakers representing the PKU and Sickle Cell communities, and would like assistance in locating a young adult with CAH.
Here's a brief summary of what they can expect:
· Tues. Nov 4th - Arrive in San Antonio Texas
· Wed. Nov 5th - Join a panel of 3-4 other young adults to discuss transitioning to adulthood and adult care
· Be prepared to speak in a large conference hall in front of approximately 300 meeting participants
· The panel is allotted 20-30 minutes so each participant will speak for approx 10 minutes,
followed by about 10 minutes of general Q&A from the audience
Logistics:
· All travel expenses will be covered including mileage (if driving), airfare, airport parking, cabs from airport to hotel, meals etc.
· The hotel room will only be covered for one night, but participants will have free access to sessions after they arrive on Tues. and prior to departing on Wed.
We need to get the program finalized and travel plans started as soon as possible, so any help you can provide will be appreciated.
Feel free to call if you would like more details. My work # is 1-888-963-7111 ext. 2715

Donna
